EMBO Practical Course
Biomolecular interaction analysis 2021: From molecules to cells | 25-29 October | ONLINE

The practical course Biomolecular interaction analysis: from molecules to cells, which has run every other year in Porto since 2012, has its 5th edition from October 25 until October 29, 2021, at i3S.
This practical course aims at a multidisciplinary approach to the study of molecular interactions from and in biological systems, integrating biochemical/biophysical methodologies with live microscopy techniques.

The course will cover a range of methods used in the kinetics and thermodynamics characterization of binding events, such as:
•    Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC)
•    Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)
•    Microscale Thermophoresis (MST)
•    Electrically Switchable nanolevers (switchSENSE)

The bridge to in vivo will be crossed with the introduction of advanced light microscopy techniques for the live cell imaging of protein-protein interactions by:
•    Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) and
•    Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM)
to study the dynamic interactions of proteins within the living cell.

In this new online format the course will include pre-recorded talks/tutorials made available before the course including introduction to the technologies, equipment and best practices. Practical sessions will focus on sample preparation, experimental design and execution and various data analysis workflows.
