Gender Equality
Scientific research, as a driver of development and social progress, must reflect the values of equality in all its dimensions. We therefore reinforce our commitment to the effective implementation of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), through:
1. Promoting an institutional culture based on gender equality, respect for diversity, and non-discrimination, ensuring inclusive and equitable work environments;
2. Integrating the gender perspective into human resources management, ensuring equal opportunities in recruitment, scientific career progression, access to funding, and leadership positions;
3. Developing and implementing a structured GEP, with concrete measures, measurable targets, and evaluation indicators;
4. Ensuring the human, technical, and financial resources necessary for the implementation of the GEP, as well as the involvement of all units and researchers at the institution;
5. Promoting awareness-raising, training, and capacity-building actions on gender equality and intersectionality, aimed at the entire scientific and technical community of the institution;
6. Monitor and evaluate progress periodically, ensuring transparency, continuous improvement, and accountability.
We therefore reinforce our commitment to the effective implementation of the GEP, calling on all members of the institution to actively and responsibly engage in this collective endeavor.
A working group is active, with key collaborators from: the Human Resources of i3S and the founder Institutes; the Unit for Responsible Conduct in Research; the Career Development Unit; the Data Protection Office; the Communication Unit.
The working group also integrates stakeholders from the different research career stages, as the representatives from the Senior Researchers, Post Docs and Junior Researchers and PhD Students. The group also includes members with decision making roles, as Group Leaders and a member of the Board of Directors of i3S.
The i3S closely follows the University of Porto's (UP) activities in the areas of equality, inclusion, and diversity, keeping abreast of updates published on the UP website. I3S can consult the expertise UP team participating in the RESET project - Redesigning Equality and Scientific Excellence Together and the specialized information published on the project's website.
