Ph.D. (2019) in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences (BiotechHealth) from the University of Porto (UP). Her Ph.D work was developed at i3S/INEB/UP, in collaboration with REQUIMTE, Portugal and Biomedical Research Institute of Murcia (IMIB), Spain, and focused on modulation of macrophage response to 3D biomaterials, for bone repair. In the biomaterials field, she provided the 1) the first in vivo characterization of macrophage polarization phenotype in response to 3D implanted biomaterials, chemically different; 2) development of an immunomodulatory material using for the first time an endogenous pro-resolving mediator, able to shift macrophage phenotype; 3) extensive characterization of NLRP3 inflammasome role in response to macroscopic biomaterials. Her research interests are on the crosstalk between neuro and immune cells, particularly on the role of macrophage – sensory nerve cells interplay in cartilage disorders.
