Liliana Santos-Ferreira holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with expertise in patient-derived organoids, gastric cancer, and glycobiology. Her research has focused on developing advanced in vitro models to study glycosylation dynamics and therapy response in gastric cancer. During her FCT-funded PhD at i3S, in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin, she established and characterized gastric cancer patient-derived organoid models and investigated their glycosylation profile (Cell Reports, 2025; 10.1016/j.celrep.2025.116550) and response to therapy. She is currently a member of the Bioengineered 3D Microenvironments group at i3S and a team member of the FCT-funded THOR project: “Shaping gastric cancer resistance to therapy using glycoengineered ex vivo patient-derived organoids”, where she is expanding this experience towards more complex 3D models of gastric cancer.
