Where Ideas Grow
Liliana Arede
Junior Researcher

I graduated with a BSc in Biology from the University of Aveiro, and I hold a PhD in Genetics from the University of Cambridge. During my PhD studies, I reported differential roles of an epigenetic regulator, KAT2A, in healthy haematopoiesis and in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, which were dependent on KAT2A’s presence in two distinct protein complexes - ATAC and SAGA (Arede et al., Blood Adv. 2022). I have also contributed to the identification of KAT2A as a stabiliser of transcriptional activity in leukaemia stem cells (Domingues et al., eLife 2020) and co-wrote a perspective article on these topics (Arede L and Pina C, Exp Hematol. 2021). I am motivated to understand blood biology in malignancy, and by the potential translation of research findings to improve disease outcomes.
