Where Ideas Grow
Joana Santos
Junior Researcher

I performed my bachelor’s studies in Applied Chemistry at the New University of Lisbon. Next, I did my PhD studies in the lab of Pedro Pereira at IBMC, Porto. Following my PhD, I moved to the lab of Prof. Dirk Slotboom in Groningen where I worked as an EMBO post-doctoral Fellow on the structural and biochemical characterization of bacterial vitamin transporters. From 2018 to 2022, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of DNA replication led by Prof. Meindert Lamers, where I studied the mycobacterial mutasome. Currently I am a junior researcher at the Macromolecular Structure Group where I aim at characterizing transporters that have been associated with drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
