Where Ideas Grow
Carol Harley
Junior Researcher
Ph.D. Biochemistry, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. My early research career focused on looking at different aspects of trafficking of proteins or whole virus particles (HSV-1) through the secretory pathway of eukaryotic cells. This early research used both Saccharomyces cerevisiae and mammalian eukaryotic cells culture infected with HSV-1 virus. I have used extensively a multidiciplinary approach using molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology in my research. Mid-career I entered into Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and became a Group Leader within the small molecule screening department where I was responsible for the development and implementation of multiple screening campaigns targeting multiple therapeutic areas. I developed my managerial skills in this position. Currently I am pursuing a research based project using my experience gained throughout my career. I am screening for modulators of an intracellular domain of an ion channel and have identified small scFv antibodies that have a functional effect.
