Where Ideas Grow
Teresa Summavielle
Group leader

Teresa Summavielle has a degree in biochemistry and a PhD in developmental neurotoxicology. Presently she coordinates the Neurobiology and Neurologic Disorders integrative program at i3S, where she is also Vice-Director and Head of  the Addiction Biology Group. Her research explores the crosstalk between neurons and glial cells under exposure to psychoactive substances and has a strong focus on neuro-immune regulation. She coordinates courses in Neurobiology of Addiction and Neurotoxicology in doctoral and master programs (University of Porto) and she is an invited professor at the Escola Superior de Saúde (Polytechnic University).Advocating for responsible experimentation, she integrates the CARE committee at FENS. On a societal perspective, she runs since 2008 a science-based campaign to prevent drug use by the adolescent population and is an acting city council women at the municipality of Porto.
