Unit for Responsible Conduct in Research
The Unit for Responsible Conduct in Research (URCR) aims to promote responsible conduct among all i3S researchers, focusing on the principles of The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (EcoC) published by ALLEA:
Reliability that is safeguarded by the quality of research throughout the whole process: from the design and the methodology to the data analysis and the use of resources.
Honesty must be respected at all stages of any research project: developing, undertaking, reviewing, reporting and communicating research in a transparent, fair, full and unbiased way.
Respect, as the basic principle of Ethics, must be recognized and enacted in the relationships with other colleagues, research participants, society and the environment.
Accountability for the research implies responsibility for every stage of the project: for the idea to the publication, for its management, for training, supervising and mentoring, and for its wider impacts.
This Unit:
- works closely with researchers, answering their queries and promoting their training in Ethics and Responsible Conduct of Research;
- is the contact point for those wishing to report, in confidence, cases of research misconduct, before any formal allegation is made;
- supports the i3S community in the implementation of international codes of conduct and best international practices in research ethics and integrity;
- works in collaboration with other national and international institutions of excellence in the field of Ethics and Responsible Conduct in Research;
- works in collaboration with the Committee for Ethical and Responsible Conduct of Research (CECRI) concerning the following shared aims:
- Promote training actions on vital areas pertaining to bioethics and responsible conduct of research, as well as other scientific activities and consequent results dissemination;
- Promote other discussion initiatives centered on ethical and responsible conduct of research issues relevant to the research carried out at i3S.
